What an absolutely sensational ending to an extraordinary weekend. The climactic sound, light, water, fire sequence was just breathtaking - the spider suddenly looked so vulnerable and strangely afraid, and I had to keep reminding myself that it was just a puppet so as to stop myself bursting into tears. The fireworks off the surrounding buildings just crowned the night - it was a real show stopping moment. And then you knew what was coming as she ambled down towards the tunnel and the music seemed to be trying to draw her back, and the snow wouldn’t send her to sleep any more… she was finally off for good. To have her turning round and seeming to wave back at us was just great theatre, and as she disappeared into that billowing smoke I could sense the crowd’s sudden sadness…

And that’s on top of the crazy Saturday afternoon experience as she loomed down at us from the end of Castle Street - we were standing just off Derby Square by the water jets. We got drenched of course, and how did everyone respond? Gales of laughter swept through the crowd, not a grumpy voice to be heard. Seeing her amongst the buildings was incredible, following her down Lord Street was simply joyous, and when the crowd burst into spontaneous applause as the operators stepped gingerly over street lights and the spider really seemed to be ‘feeling’ her way along… just fantastic.

Hats off to everyone who made this happen, who said ‘yes’ when it would have been very much easier to say ‘no’. And biggest thanks of all to La Machine, who could have played things a whole lot safer by NOT choosing a spider; it’s much easier to fall for an elephant and a giant girl - they have cute faces after all - but by choosing a spider they deliberately set themselves an immense challenge. That is the mark of true artists, and they deserve all the plaudits that are coming their way.

La Princesse has made 2008 for me. She did more to bring together the people of Liverpool in our own streets than any other event has managed. Heartfelt, poignant and beautiful - we’ll miss your magic!

Come back La Princesse! We’re totally enchanted, and there’s always room for one more diva in Liverpool. I know we gave you a lot of attention, but we were just curious. Besides, I think you started to enjoy it! Sorry you had to run off down the plughole. I hope it was a Queensway fit for a Princesse.
I hope you leave with fond memories. We’ll never forget you, your beauty, or your music. Clare xxx

Thank you Monsieur Delaroziere et al for a fantastic experience in Liverpool over the past few days - you are truly a star and anyone who says engineering is boring should look at these photos. Sometimes all you need is someone with a vision plus a “can do” mentality in order to bring a little magic back into our lives and for that we are forever grateful. Worth every penny and more - please bring La princesse or any of her “friends” back to us soon. The lambanana looks pretty tame by comparison!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I was so touched and amazed by the Sultans Elephant that when I saw the Giants were coming to Liverpool I came up from London for the weekend. Thank you for taking me to another level - please please let me know what is next - I am prepared to travel anywhere for the magic.

My four children and I came over to Liverpool on Saturday especially to see La Princesse.  It was fantastic.  Even at the Pier Head where she was asleep, she looked majestic, and even more so at the Tempest.

A great spectacle.  Well done to everyone involved.

You were with us only briefly, but will live in our hearts forever.  Our beautiful Princess… we will never forget you. x

We loved you from the minute we turned the corner at Lime Street and saw you on Concourse House! We marvelled at you when we first walked beside you and started to get to know you on The Strand and in the Dock. We got even more excited when we watched you in Town and walked with you again from the Adelphi back to Lime Street. And finally, we wept together - we really truly did! - as we waved you off and bid you farewell at the Tunnel last night. Nous t’aimons La Princesse…
Merci Beacoup La Machine!

Been to see La Princess every day from her waking up to her disappearing down the tunnel, fell in love with her and felt sad when she went.  What a show and all the hard work done by everyone paid off.  Well done! I am proud of my city and all who got this event together (Just wish I could have a ride on her).  Oh well, can always dream. Would love her to come back.

You have delivered the most amazing spectacle I have ever seen. This has been by far the highlight of 2008 events. I cannot begin to find the words that do justice to what we have witnessed over the last 5 days. From the publicity artwork, element of surprise, music and the sheer daring of the project it has taken my breath away. Soon everyone in the City was talking about ‘The Spider’. She has taken us on the most extraordinary journey and I am sad to see her leave. My heartfelt thanks for far exceeding our highest expectations of this event.
